Elektra
![]() "Recording the orchestra must have been only the first phase of creating the score. The amount of work that went into mixing and processing all the live elements with the MIDI/synth elements must've been quite painstaking. Of course this isn't new to modern film scoring, but it's done with so much flash in Elektra, it's worth noting. It pays off too, as the Varese album is one of the most creatively mixed scores I've ever heard. " -Ryan Keaveney, cinemusic.net Read the full article here. X2 X-Men United
This was not the first score I worked on that was released on CD, but was the first that I produced and that was for a really giant film; naturally I voraciously read the reviews. Just as movie reviews don't often mention the music, neither do score album reviews often mention
the engineering / mixing of the score. When they do they either love it
or hate it. Here are some of my favorite quotes and links to the full reviews
(if still online). On the website Music from the Movies.com Mikael Carlsson said: "The complex orchestrations - often filled with huge contrasts between writing for bombastic brass and percussion and subtler parts for strings, choir and harp - are skillfully recorded by Casey Stone. The sound quality is fantastic and definitely in the same league as anything done by Shawn Murphy." On the website Soundtrack.net Daniel Brecher writes: "It's a thrilling piece of music, and if you've dedicated any time and money into your music system at home, the cue really lets the excellent mixing of the score and mastering of the CD shine." Under the Tuscan Sun On the website Cinemusic.net
Ryan Keaveney writes: "The disc is expertly performed by Los Angeles studio
musicians, and crisply recorded by Casey Stone. The mixing and mastering
is rich and full." |
